Consent is the energetic first single from Rookes' self-produced, grant-funded album, POPNOTPOP, which is set for a November release. Conceived at the height of London lockdown, Consent follows in verbatim the stream of revelations Rookes experienced while processing the breakdown of a relationship that had spun out of control. The result is an infectiously catchy and cathartic piece of pop-rock, that re-establishes Rookes as one of the most innovative writer-producers out there today.
Was it all for nothing?
Who’s in charge?
Is it desire or destiny
Driving us straight into the sea
Where do I make a complaint
I didn’t sign up for this
I didn’t sign up for this
It’s not a new normal
It’s not acceptable
I laced a little hope in
I left a little light on
But I should not have done
No, I should not have done
Oh oh
Blown up in slow motion
Who’s in charge?
You’ve been filling my body up
with all your hurt for days
Where do I make a complaint
I didn’t consent to this
I didn’t consent to this
It’s not a new normal
It’s not acceptable
I laced a little hope in
I left a little light on
But I should not have done
No, I should not have done
Oh oh
I lost myself today
I don’t know how I did it
And I didn’t know I could
It only took a minute
To mess it all up
To mess it all up
Just like your mama said you would
It’s not a new normal
It’s not acceptable
I laced a little hope in
I left a little light on
But I should not have done (No, I should not have done)
No, I should not have done (No, I should not have done)
No, I should not have done (No, I should not have done)
No, I should not have done (No, I should not have done)
No, I should not have done (No, I should not have done)
No, I should not have done
Oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh

An ambitious pop song cycle about human loneliness and fear, thick with harmonies and buoyed by tight musicianship. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 27, 2018

Four more winners on this excellent release. Have loved 'Honey' from the first time I heard it, as there's plenty of passion and spirit in Sarah's awesome vocals. An EP of fast and slow contrasts that's always mesmerising. Michael Reilly
